Family Holiday Activities

As we head back into a time where we are urged to stay indoors, we thought it would be fun to source festive activities you can do at home with your kids these next few weeks. Read below to get inspired!

Make DIY Christmas Cards
This year, instead of opting for store-bought cards, have a family craft afternoon and create one of a kind pieces for your friends and family. Check out these Pipe Cleaner Christmas Cards from Crafty Morning and Christmas Tree Thumbprint Art from A Dab of Glue Will Do.

Make your own Christmas Tree Ornaments
Get crafty and create your own Christmas tree ornaments this year. These DIY ornaments also make great gifts for family and friends you won’t be able to see this year. We love the idea of these Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree Ornaments and these super cute Pinecone Gnome ornaments.

Christmas Baking
Baking is such a great way to spend quality time with the family with the big bonus of getting to eat your baked goods afterwards. Definitely a win-win! These Holiday Tree Brownies are easily made, using a store-bought brownie mixture with a few twists.

You also can't forget making gingerbread cookies, here is a recipe we've used in the past that's proven to be quick and delicious. Although most recipes for gingerbread call for allowing the mixture to sit in cool temperatures for a few hours, we've made this recipe with just a 30 minute rest time and they were seriously delicious.

Go for a Christmas light drive around your neighbourhood
Have a safe evening of Christmas light gazing by going out for an evening ride with your family.

We've noticed lots of people have already began fully decorating for Christmas, so you can head out and look for festively decorated homes much earlier this year!

Watch Christmas Movies
No matter what age you are, Christmas movies are always a great idea during the holiday season. Check out this list of 25 Christmas movies for the whole family. Our Favourite Is Elf!

DIY Wreaths
Buying wreaths from the store can be expensive, and why would you when it’s so much fun to make them yourself.  Everyone in the family can make their own and hang it on their door with this simple, and low-cost DIY wreath design!

Family Karaoke Night
Turn on your favourite Christmas tunes and have a family Karaoke Night! You can get creative here and use props to make a stage and microphone. If you're looking for carols with lyrics, take a search on YouTube.

Despite not being able to celebrate in the usual fashion, we hope everyone has a happy festive season and takes this time to appreciate family and friends near and far.
