Discover Princess Park in Upper Lonsdale: quiet residential streets, local schools, leafy parks and mountain access for families ready for more room.

There comes a point when moving isn’t just about another bedroom. It’s about somewhere to keep the bikes, a backyard for summer evenings, and the possibility of neighbourhood friends knocking on the door asking, “Can you come out and play?”

For families ready to move beyond a condo or townhome, Princess Park is a North Shore neighbourhood worth getting to know. Tucked between Upper Lonsdale and Lynn Valley, it combines leafy residential streets, local parks and access to the mountains with everyday conveniences close by.

It’s the kind of setting that brings to mind learning to ride a bike, drawing chalk masterpieces on the driveway and stretching an afternoon outside just a little longer.

More than a bigger home

When families start looking for a detached home, the wish list often begins with practical things: another bedroom, more storage and somewhere for all the sports equipment.

But what they’re really looking for is a different rhythm.

Room for the kids to spread out. A garden to putter in. Space to host a birthday party without rearranging the entire living room. And a street where getting to know the neighbours feels possible.

Princess Park’s quieter residential pockets and cul-de-sacs are part of its appeal. Not every street has the same character, of course, which is why exploring a few blocks on foot can be just as useful as touring the house itself. For buyers coming from a busier, denser setting, finding the right street can make all the difference.

A neighbourhood with a park at its heart

The namesake park is a big part of what makes living here special. Princess Park has wooded trails along Hastings Creek, grassy spaces, playgrounds and tennis courts—plenty of reasons to step outside without planning a whole day around it.

Think after-school playground stops, a weekend wander through the trees or a little fresh air between dinner and bedtime. When green space is part of the neighbourhood, outdoor time becomes easier to fit into ordinary days.

Carisbrooke Park is another nearby option in the broader Upper Lonsdale area. Having a choice of parks means there’s always somewhere to take a scooter, meet another family or let the kids burn off some energy.

The school-run lifestyle

For many young families, being able to walk to elementary school is high on the wish list. Carisbrooke Elementary and Braemar Elementary are two schools buyers often ask us about when exploring this part of North Vancouver.

Depending on the home’s location and assigned school, a walk to class may become part of the daily routine: backpacks on, a stop to collect a friend and a chance to catch up with other parents along the way.

School catchments and walking routes need to be checked for each property, rather than assumed from the neighbourhood name. Hills, crossings and the distance from a particular street all matter. Braemar also offers Early French Immersion, which has a separate district enrolment process; living nearby does not guarantee a place in that program.

We always recommend checking an address through the North Vancouver School District’s School Locator early in your search.

Coffee, groceries and an easy dinner out

A quieter neighbourhood doesn’t have to mean feeling far from everything.

The Upper Lonsdale shops around Queens Road give the area a useful everyday hub. Queensdale Market is a local stop for groceries and dinner ingredients, Starbucks is nearby for a coffee run, and Queens Cross Pub is a long-standing neighbourhood spot for a casual meal.

Whether those errands happen on foot or by car depends on where you live. Homes closer to Lonsdale offer a different balance of convenience and activity than those tucked farther into the residential streets. It’s worth deciding which matters more to your family: walking to coffee, a quieter setting, or a little of both.

Mountains as part of everyday life

One of the great advantages of this part of the North Shore is having the forest and mountains so close.

The trails toward Mount Fromme offer opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, while the wider North Shore puts skiing, forest walks and weekend adventures within reach. You don’t have to be a family of serious outdoor enthusiasts to appreciate it. Sometimes the best outing is simply an hour among the trees.

For indoor activities and organized recreation, Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre is another important amenity along the Lonsdale corridor. It adds to the options for keeping the whole family active beyond the neighbourhood parks. Programs and facility availability are worth checking directly when planning activities.

Is Princess Park your next chapter?

If you’re leaving a condo or townhome, you may be looking for more than square footage. You may be looking for the childhood you picture for your kids: bikes in the driveway, friends nearby and afternoons that unfold outside.

Princess Park deserves a place on that search list.

The key is finding the home—and the street—that fits your family. School routes, hills, outdoor space and access to your favourite local spots all shape what living here will actually feel like.
